In Canada, my homeland, we enjoy the benefits of free healthcare but in spite of this luxury, it is not uncommon to experience brutal waiting periods for all categories of care including emergency healthcare services. In fact, people have been known to literally die waiting to be seen!
At NMC Specialty Hospital, the need for rapid and efficient emergency health care is of paramount importance and in the event of a medical emergency, their team is always on-call to ensure every need is met quickly and in the best way possible.
With the Holiday Season upon us and 2016 preparing to move aside in anticipation of a brand new year, our friends at some of Al Ain’s best addresses spared no detail in spreading festive cheer to the many participating families throughout the Garden City.
From the top of Al Ain’s Mercure Grand to the city center’s Ayla, reaching the Hili Rayhan Rotana and brightening the oasis of the Danat Hotel & Resort, Santa was doing what he does best, lighting the many trees and hearts of Al Ain. Children and parents alike beamed as Christmas trees lit up in glory and the jolly, white bearded elf, along with his many friends and helpers distributed gifts to the eager children. It was a joyous time filled with song and sharing and thanks to the many sponsors and hotel friends of our wonderful city, Christmas 2016 is being welcomed with the usual festive spirit of our community.
This has been a year of both joy and much controversy on a global scale and the gift of cheer being spread by the good people of this city is a welcome addition and necessary additive, reassuring that the quest for “peace on earth and goodwill towards men” never gets lost in the shuffle of life. Thank You Al Ain & Happy Holidays to one and all!
Stefnie Perlman, Elane Smith (lead vocals) and Jason Vex (bass/guitar/vocals) hail from South Africa, with lead guitarist/vocalist Daniel Jenkins joining the band from Harare, Zimbabwe. The ensemble plays everything from the 80s, 90s, rock/pop chart toppers, reggae and pub favourites and today’s current radio hits. “We are four very different personalities with diverse voices and singing styles.
Our personal musical influences range from Celine Dion, Adele and Alicia Keys to metal/alternative to Ed Sheeran and John Mayer and classic rock bands like Led Zeppelin, Guns ‘n Roses and Fleetwood Mac. We all eat, sleep and breathe music - without which, we would not be who we are. Our musical differences and preferences in genre allow for greater creativity and versatility in our repertoire”. All four members have a rich history of live and studio performance. Daniel is an original artist in his own right and the music video for his first single, “City Streets”, filmed in Greece and Norway, can be found on YouTube. It is a song close to his heart about bringing love and peace back to his home of Zimbabwe.
The platinumhaired ladies of the band are both drama and theatre graduates. Elane has been performing in hotels in the UAE and Bahrain for four years. Stefnie, the band leader, is a former professional dancer and back-up singer and performed with The Mix Band, previously at the Danat. Jason enjoyed a three-year streak playing for a Time Out Award nominated band in Abu Dhabi. The band love living and working at the Danat Al Ain Resort. “There is so much to do here and no need to go anywhere. The grounds are beautiful, the food is fantastic and the state-of-the-art gym keeps us fit and ready for long challenging gigs. We all love to relax and cool off by the pool enjoying the sunshine before taking to the stage again.” “We are a young band (all in our 20s) and we love performing and keeping things fun and fresh! It’s all about creating a great vibe and electric atmosphere! We aim to get to know everyone who comes into the bar on a personal level and greet people by name, because every guest is important to us. We take all our song requests into account to make sure there is something for everyone.
We endeavor to keep our audience dancing and enjoying their time with us – right up until 1am and the last round is called! “ You can catch the Platinum band live in action at the Horse & Jockey Pub, Danat Al Ain Resort every Monday and Wednesday from 8pm and Thursdays from 8:30pm till late. On Fridays kick off your weekend “DRUNCH” style in the pub, where you can enjoy a sumptuous buffet catered to perfection by chef Nicolai Schleifer (artisan of the now infamous Black Burger), as well as selected drinks and live entertainment from 12pm to 4pm. The party continues into the evening with ever popular karaoke nights kicking off around 7pm.
